Coaching

Coaching is a behaviour that lies at the opposite end of the spectrum to command and control.

Coaching can be tailored to meet specific needs of teams or individuals. A typical Executive Coaching plan would run for 6 months, with monthly or bi-monthly face-to-face meetings, supported by telephone coaching.

The style is non-directive on the basis that goals and actions owned by those being coached are the key to success.

A skilful coach rarely provides or prescribes solutions. The essence of coaching is unlocking a person's potential to maximise their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them:

  • Exploration and clarity of Core Values, Meaning and Purpose is key
  • Creation of awareness and responsibility – an awareness raiser, not an instructor
  • Golden Rule of listening to and watching the coachee, following their interest, lead or direction
Coaching is useful for:
  • Motivating Staff
  • Delegating
  • Problem solving
  • Relationship issues
  • Team building
  • Appraisals and assessment
  • Task performance
  • Planning and reviewing
  • People development
  • Team working
